CBS-owned
WWJ (Detroit) has purchased the FreedomHD to power
their school closing display. In a unique partnership for a television
station that lacks a traditional news department, the
Detroit Free Press provides
content and talent for the two-hour morning show.
School closings are collected from the Free Press's NewsTicker server, which
drives the FreedomHD. The Detroit Free Press has been a NewsTicker client
since 2007, initially purchasing the industry-leading product for streamlining
the collection and display of school closings on Freep.com, their homepage.
The Detroit Free Press is owned by Gannett Co. Inc. (NYSE: GCI). Gannett
operates 23 television stations reaching 20-million households, and
publishes 84 daily newspapers in the U.S. including USA TODAY, making
it the largest newspaper published in the country.
WWJ is owned by CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation
(NYSE:CBS). CBS owns 29 stations, including 16 CBS, nine The CW, one
MyNetworkTV and three stations not affiliated with major networks.
